JUNG_E Review, Release Date, Story, Wiki | Official Review

A brand-new South Korean sci-fi thriller on Netflix is called JUNG E. The plot combines elements of Robocop and I, Robot with hints of Terminator and Ex-Machina. Oh, there are many recognisable elements in this novel, but there are also many new ones.

Even more impressive is the fact that this film is quite brief by South Korean standards. It only lasts for 98 minutes, which is not very long. Additionally, it is from the creator of the hit Netflix series Hellbound and the zombie phenomenon Train to Busan. It was officially revealed that Hellbound season 2 would be arriving on Netflix in September 2022.

Read our review of the movie Jung E below. On Netflix starting January 20, 2023.

Violent anguish and intense action

Even though Jung E is primarily a sci-fi thriller, we all agree that the best stories are the ones that truly speak to us. The most recent Netflix film is excellent in this regard.

The information that Earth has been wrecked by severe climate change is presented at the start of the film. The majority of humanity has moved to space shelters as a result of this. It doesn't take long for some of these shelters to wage war on one another, though, in true human fashion.

When Jung E starts, there is a civil war going on both in space (and on Earth, where some humans still live). Someone had the wonderful notion to clone their most effective elite soldier in order to win the battle.

Alternately, utilise the brain data from Captain Yun Jung-yi to create the ultimate A.I. combat warrior (a terminator, if you will). The Jung E programme of artificial intelligence fighting warriors is effectively what Jung-yi is.

JUNG E has a star to which it is dedicated.

Kim Hyun-joo (Hellbound), who plays Captain Yun Jung-yi, does a fantastic job portraying both a soldier and a parent. A few decades had passed after the Captain was killed in combat when this story takes place. It was feasible to save her brain data, though, and as a result, the JUNG E project was created.

Yun Seo-hyun (Kang Soo-youn), the daughter of Jung-yi, is the project's lead researcher now, 35 years later. Imagine being forced to watch while they train what is effectively an android clone of your mother—an android who is unaware that she isn't human—dies and suffers repeatedly.

It's brutal, this.

As Jung-daughter, yi's who must always act professionally, Kang Soo-youn brings such heart and suffering to the part.

The actor, who tragically went away on May 7, 2022, is honoured throughout the film. Thanks to her efforts in the 1980s and 1990s, Kang Soo-youn was hailed as South Korea's "first world star."

Do AI androids have human rights?

Although Kronoid develops military artificial intelligence, anyone can save their own "brain data." Those who have money, that is. You can effectively keep living by having your brain data transferred to an android. What kind of "brain data plan" you can pay will determine your rights as an android.

This violent section of JUNG E also acts as a potent societal critique on the use of private information.

Netflix JUNG E to watch!

Yeon Sang-ho is the writer and director of JUNG E, a director we have grown to adore here at Heaven of Horror. To be fair, a lot of genre enthusiasts have found his incredible work. Train to Busan, which he both wrote and directed, became a great hit both domestically and abroad. Even though the sequel to the film wasn't quite as fantastic, you can't win them all.

Fortunately, Yeon Sang-ho also produced the outstanding Netflix series Hellbound. I'm really excited for season 2 of that bizarre show. Additionally, it appears like there is potential for a JUNG E sequel, therefore I'm hoping that JUNG E 2 will demonstrate Yeon Sang-ability ho's to produce a superb follow-up.

There are other little detours along the road, but most crucially, the film closes with room for a sequel. Personally, I truly hope that JUNG E 2 will be released on Netflix.

I wholeheartedly urge you to see JUNG E on Netflix, even if there isn't a sequel. It features action, a thriller, science fiction, and much more. A compelling narrative that is about much more than what the future may hold. Instead, it is unmistakably asking: Should we do something just because we are able to? And who makes the decision?

Global Netflix availability for JUNG E begins on January 20, 2023.
