DISQUIET – Review, Release Date, Story, Wiki | Official Review

The brand-new DISQUIET is a terrifying spooky flick. The plot is predictable and the atmosphere is frighteningly similar, so many horror enthusiasts will undoubtedly foresee all of the twists and turns. Nothing here is very novel. Except that it has a large number of recognisable actors, leading you to anticipate more from it than it really provides.

This was not a pleasant experience for me. At all. This horror film is so formulaic that it's uninteresting, and one of the leads is noticeably off his game. Despite just having a 1 hour and 25 minute running duration, it seems much longer. Almost remarkable, if you ask me.

Below is more of our Disquiet movie review for your perusal. On February 10, 2023, it will be available in select theatres, digital platforms, and video on demand.

Nothing at all unexpected

It's possible that Disquiet is enjoyable if you approach it with the right frame of mind, seeing it as a purely camp and kitsch experience. Keep in mind, however, that the film's B horror (more like C horror) vibe seems completely unintentional. It's simply a poor production overall.

Anyone who has read even a few of our reviews knows that we always look for the bright side of things here at Heaven of Horror. Don't want to be nasty about someone's pet cause. However, I could not detect any genuine enthusiasm for the genre in this picture. The narrative itself, for that matter.

To be fair, the narrative itself isn't all that compelling, but what really drags things down is the fact that the action unfolds almost like a video game. This level of predictability is really tedious. Furthermore, with strong religious overtones. A further element of the Disquiet environment with which I was not comfortable.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has to be able to do better than this.

Disquiet stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, as was previously indicated. This was by no means his greatest effort. It's a toss-up whether the macho ruggedness or the smartass one-liners bother me more. The incessant nagging of his wife that no woman should date him since he's married.

Throughout Disquiet, he acts in a manner that makes little to no sense. And what a conclusion! Oh God, save me; it was the most cringe-inducing thing I've seen in a long time. I don't understand why this film is being released in theatres when others that are far better are being ignored.

Yes, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is capable of "doing better," and I want to make that very apparent. I in no way want to imply that he is beneath the Disquiet film. If he had given a stronger performance, it would have been great for the movie. He has room to improve.

His best performances have been in more recent films like The 12th Man, Black Butterfly, and Awake.

Key supporting parts are played by Elyse Levesque (Ready or Not), Rachelle Goulding, Garry Chalk (Day of the Dead), Trezzo Mahoro, and Lochlyn Munro (Initiation), among others. The latter two appear in a pivotal subplot that, like the rest of the picture, is just too contrived to be believable.

Disquiet is now playing in theatres and is available On Demand.

Michael Winnick wrote and directed Disquiet, as he always does with his films. As a rule, however, the effect is considerably more powerful than what I saw here. Malicious (2018), which he also wrote and directed, was a considerably more successful effort.

As good as Jonathan Rhys Meyers is, everyone else in this film outperforms him in terms of acting. Having seen many of his productions over the last several decades, I know he is capable of much more and more, but this is by far the worst I've seen him.

Thankfully, he has a number of upcoming films that may prove to be his salvation. Michael Winnick, the writer and director of Disquiet, is undoubtedly capable of much more.

Starting February 10, 2023, you may see Disquiet in select theatres, online, and on demand.
